How can I find entities that would be interested licensing my technology?
TPO staff are responsible for the marketing and promotion of NOAA patented technologies. Once the patent is in place, we will begin seeking suitable partners for the technology through this website, business development offices, and trade shows.
Can a NOAA scientist or lab receive royalties?
Yes. Both scientists and the laboratory where they work are able to receive royalties.
How is the amount of the royalty determined?
Royalties are based on many factors including, but not limited to: the type of license granted (exclusive, nonexclusive, field of use, etc.), the stage of the invention (i.e., how long it will take and how much it will cost for the licensee to commercialize the technology), whether or not it is a joint or sole invention, the market rate of royalties typical for the particular industry, the size of the company, foreign competition, etc.
