Dr. Genevieve Lind (she/her) joins the Technology Partnerships Office (TPO) as the Program Manager of NOAA’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program. Dr. Lind comes to NOAA from NIH where she was a Health Program Specialist in the Division of Translational Research at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). Prior to joining NINDS, Dr. Lind was a AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute where she worked with the SBIR and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs, as well as other initiatives that support the translation of basic scientific discoveries into heart, lung, blood, and sleep technologies. As a fellow, she also had the opportunity to do a detail with the Small Business Administration in the Office of Innovation and Technology, which oversees the Congressionally-mandated SBIR and STTR programs and coordinates policy and outreach for the 12 participating federal agencies.
Genevieve came to the fellowship after spending a year serving as an AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteer In Service To America) at Blackstone LaunchPad at the University of Montana, a university-based innovation and entrepreneurship center. In this role, she worked to expand access to opportunity for underserved populations and engage researchers in commercialization and entrepreneurship. Throughout her career, she has been actively involved in science advocacy and education and has experience engaging with diverse stakeholders including scientists, educators, administrators, law makers, and public audiences. She holds a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Montana.
In her new role at TPO, Dr. Lind will oversee NOAA’s SBIR Program. The NOAA SBIR Program’s mission is to stimulate the U.S. economy and business growth through the commercialization of innovative mission-relevant technologies by investing NOAA research funds in American small businesses and providing guidance to entrepreneurs throughout the process of researching, developing, and commercializing products or services. TPO is the Research to Commercialization Office for NOAA, and is situated within OAR’s Office of Research, Transition, and Application (ORTA).
