Hollings Lab and Algaeventure Systems: Looking for Benefits in Harmful Algal Blooms

The NOAA Ocean Service Hollings Laboratory Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA), with Algaeventure Systems (dba Biosortia Pharmaceuticals), which was originally signed in 2012 and recently amended in 2014, has resulted in a wide array of successful outcomes for NOAA, and for its CRADA partners.

NOAA and Envera LLC: Exploring Probiotics for Shellfish Aquaculture

The Milford laboratory seeks to transfer new knowledge and technology directly to the U.S. aquaculture industry through key partnerships and collaborations.  Most recently, the lab has signed a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with Envera LLC of West Chester, PA, to evaluate a newly isolated probiotic strain for possible commercial use in oyster hatcheries.

Alaska Sea Grant and Cooperative Extension delivered training and technical assistance via videoconference to 63 Alaskans interested in food-producing businesses to diversify economies in rural Alaska communities, which resulted in three new businesses.

Connecticut Sea Grant Assistance Contributes to Over 300% Growth in SE Connecticut Aquaculture Industry

Connecticut Sea Grant routinely provides services such as business planning, permitting assistance, and training to prospective shellfish farmers. In the past two years, this assistance has contributed to seven new or prospective businesses in southeastern Connecticut, tripling the size of the aquaculture industry in this sector of the state.

NOAA Sea Grant: Increasing Community Resilience in Louisiana

Louisiana Sea Grant partnerships and education efforts have improved financial awareness in three local governments and trained over 100 facilitators on the Financial Decision Tool. Louisiana Sea Grant participation in the CRS Community User Groups has increased knowledge of available information related to mitigating flood risk and reducing flood insurance premiums for the participating communities, and helped support a cohesive approach to floodplain management in Louisiana with a focus on implementing non-structural projects and programs.
