Wayne MacKenzie joins the Technology Partnerships Office as the Program Manager of NOAA’s Technology Transfer Program. Wayne comes from the NOAA National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS), where he was a product owner responsible for developing the new NESDIS Cloud Computing Framework that will be the infrastructure for satellite data processing for NOAA. Wayne has spent most of his career working with satellite data products, including research and development of GOES-R and JPSS satellite algorithms, satellite operations, and end user applications. He has over 15 years of experience working with satellite data products at NOAA and in private industry. Wayne earned a M.S. in Atmospheric Science from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, a B.S. in Meteorology from Millersville University, and a MBA from American Public University.
At TPO, Wayne will be in charge of overseeing the Technology Transfer Program. The mission of TPO’s Technology Transfer Program is to promote increased use and commercialization of NOAA’s innovative technologies and knowledge by facilitating strategic partnerships and ensuring the rapid and cost-effective transfer of intellectual property from NOAA labs and programs to other federal agencies, academia, and the U.S. private sector. TPO is the Research to Commercialization Office for NOAA, and is situated within OAR’s Office of Research, Transition, and Application (ORTA).
