Technology & Licensing Opportunities

The following technologies are available for both non-exclusive and exclusive licenses.  Companies that are interested in licensing a NOAA product may contact the NOAA Technology Partnerships Office via our office email at NOAA.t2@noaa.gov. Please make sure to reference the specific technology in which you are interested in the text of your email.  Interested companies will be asked to complete a licensing questionnaire which will detail their suitability as a licensing partner and the specific marketing strategy for the technology.  Please note that requests for exclusive licenses will require license initiation fees and will require a public comment period of at least 30 days prior to implementation.

The NOAA Ocean Service Hollings Laboratory Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA), with Algaeventure Systems (dba Biosortia Pharmaceuticals), which was originally signed in 2012 and recently amended in 2014, has resulted in a wide array of successful outcomes for NOAA, and for its CRADA partners.

NOAA and Envera LLC: Exploring Probiotics for Shellfish Aquaculture

The Milford laboratory seeks to transfer new knowledge and technology directly to the U.S. aquaculture industry through key partnerships and collaborations.  Most recently, the lab has signed a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with Envera LLC of West Chester, PA, to evaluate a newly isolated probiotic strain for possible commercial use in oyster hatcheries.

NOAA Big Data Project: Cooperative Effort to Get More use from Environmental Data

On April 21st 2015, NOAA and the Department of Commerce announced that they had entered into Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADAs) with Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, IBM, Microsoft, and the Open Cloud Consortium. Under these agreements, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and its collaborators will research and explore new ways to enable the use of NOAA data, furthering the Department of Commerce's goals of improving decision-making by government, industry, and citizens; growing the economy; and creating jobs.

Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker Joins President Obama in Announcing Expanded Presidential Ambassadors for Global Entrepreneurship (PAGE) Initiative


Yesterday, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker joined President Obama in celebrating emerging entrepreneurs from across the United States and around the world. During the event, the White House announced the addition of nine new members of the Presidential Ambassadors for Global Entrepreneurship (PAGE) initiative, which Secretary Pritzker chairs. PAGE is a group of America’s most respected business creators who have committed to sharing their time, energy, ideas, and experience to help develop the next generation of entrepreneurs around the world.
