RedSkyWx Mobile Application - Real-time Coastal Weather Data

NOAA SBIR recipient, Metron, developed Mobile Application to crowdsource real-time coastal weather conditions

Company:
Metron is a scientific consulting company dedicated to solving challenging problems in national defense through the development and application of advanced mathematical methods. Problem solutions are realized in computer software with graphical interfaces that allow a user to understand and act on the results without having to comprehend the intricacies of the models themselves.  Metron’s employees are leaders in their technical fields who have made the commitment to solve real-world problems. They excel in statistical inference, operations research, physical modeling, and software development. Our success depends upon recruiting and retaining the best talent available in the fields of applied mathematics, physics, and computer science.

Techonology:
Our RedSkyWx Mobile Application was developed under NOAA SBIR funds to crowdsource real-time weather conditions data in coastal maritime environments.  These data will be used to inform NOAA weather models, provide feedback to National Weather Service forecasters, and improve boater safety by reporting current weather conditions.  Users can filter reports and set alerts to be notified of significant weather events.  Reports are formed around sensors within the mobile device itself, supplemented by Bluetooth-connected handheld weather devices and user observations.  Data are source tagged to provide credibility.  The RedSkyWx App is available for free download from the iTunes and Google Play App stores.
